J. "Lionel" Remy, 98, of Cumberland, passed away on July 24th, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene E. (Cullen) Remy for over 61 years. Born in Central Falls, RI, he was the son of the late Dollard and Rose (Alma) Remy.
At the age of 18 years old, he joined the U.S Merchant Marines during World War II from 1943-1946 serving in the European Theater. He is survived by his sisters Rita Proulx (Lincoln) and Claire Dumas (Central Falls) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his sisters Lucille Frappier (Cumberland) and Viola Payette (Central Falls), Brothers Roch K. Remy, USN who was killed in WWII in a battle in the Pacific, Robert (Florida), George (Pawtucket), and Paul (Connecticut).
Lionel was a graduate of Bryant College with a degree in law Enforcement. In 1956, he became a member of the Central Falls Police Department, and he retired as a Captain in 1987 after over 30 years of service.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28th from 4pm-7pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave. Lincoln. His funeral will begin on Saturday, July 29th at 9:30am DIRECTLY at Holy Spirit Parish, 1030 Dexter St. Central Falls, RI 02863. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Holy Spirit Parish, 1030 Dexter St. Central Falls, RI 02863 or to Camp Ker-Anna, 500 Reservoir Rd, Cumberland RI 02864.
